Restoring a Historic Masseria in Puglia
WHAT WE'RE DOING
Masseria Le Camere is an old 1800s stone farmhouse outside Ostuni. It’s been sitting empty for decades, so bringing it back to life means starting with the basics, sorting out off-grid water, solar power, fixing the stone structure, and getting the olive grove healthy again. We're taking our time to do it right so we can turn it into a home for our family.
HOW WE GOT HERE
Hi, we're Celsa & Tim
This masseria has been in Celsa’s family for over twenty years. It sat quiet for a long time, and a few years ago we decided to stop just talking about fixing it up and actually get started.
It’s a pretty huge undertaking, especially while living and working overseas. There’s no town water out here, the building needs a lot of care, and navigating Italian paperwork has been an adventure in itself. We’re definitely learning as we go.
We both work full-time, so we split the project based on what we know best. Celsa is an in-house lawyer and handles the legal work, permits, and planning. Tim is a commercial photographer, so he looks after the design, physical labor on site, and getting his hands dirty in the garden.
We don’t have everything figured out, but we’re taking it one project at a time and documenting the progress here. The wins, the delays, and everything in between.
